Bago City is a 2nd class city in the province of Negros Occidental, Philippines.  According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 141,721 people in 27,965 households.  The city is located 21 kilometres south of the provincial capital, Bacolod City. 

 

Ramon D. Torres was elected as Bago City Mayor in 2007 replacing Janet E. Torres, whose husband served as mayor for almost 11 years.  The coliseum located in the heart of the city is named after him.

 

Bago City operates a subsidized college, Bago City College, located in Barangay Balingasag.  Most of its students come from the southern part of the island.

 

Buenos Aires Mountain Resort is one of the main tourist destinations in Bago City; so is Kipot Twin Falls.

 

The city fiesta is celebrated November 5 in commemoration of the Negros Revolution.


 

The main entry point to the Province of Negros Occidental and to the City of Bago is Bacolod City.  By air Bacolod City is 50 mins. from Manila and 30 mins. from Cebu.  It is served by Philippine Airlines, Air Philippines and Cebu Pacific.  By boat, Bacolod is 18 hours from Manila, 15 hours from Cebu, 1 hour from Iloilo.  It is served by Negros Navigation, WG & A, Trans Asia Shipping Co., and Philippine Fast Ferry Corporation.  By bus, Bacolod is 8 hours from Cebu, and 5 hours from Dumaguete.  It is mainly served by the Vallacar Transit Corporation.

Bago City is 30 minutes drive from Bacolod City, the capital of Negros Occidental.  Trips from Bacolod to Bago City may be by bus, mini buses and public utility jeepneys. Transportation enroute to and from Bacolod City to Southern Negros Occidental pass through Bago City.

 

Bago City bound buses have their terminal at Lopez Jeana St., Bacolod City, while the mini buses and public utility jeepneeys have their terminal at Libertad St., Bacolod City.

 

 

Public utility tricycles ply the busy streets of Bago City from Poblacion to the different Barangays and vice-versa.  Mini buses and public utility jeepneys have direct route from Bacolod to Barangay Ma-ao, where the terminal of public utility jeepneys for interior barangays is located.  Said mini buses and public utility jeepneys can be hired by ferry passengers to the various tourist destinations in the City, particularly the Buenos Aires Mountain Resort, the Kipot Twin Falls and the Rafael Salas Parks and Nature Center which are all located in the hinterlands
